Jazz with Mette Nadja Hansen and Johannes von Ballestrem
Danish jazz singer Mette Nadja Hansen and Bonn-born jazz pianist Johannes von Ballestrem have developed this program especially for the Bonn Schumann Festival and the Clara Schumann Birthday. “We want to highlight with the program,” they say, “as has been the case since the dawn of jazz, though gladly overlooked, women have helped shape the music through their playing and compositions. Many of her pieces have become standards, such as Dorothy Fields (Irene Higginbotham, Good morningheartache), Ann Ronell (Willow Weep For Me), Lil Hardin Armstrong (Struttin ‘with some Barbeque) , Billie Holiday (Do not Explain, God Bless The Child). It will also feature pieces by jazz pianists such as Mary Lou Williams and Marian McPartland. ”
// “The lack of representation of women in jazz is comparable to many areas of our society, be it culture, economics or politics.” (Union of German Jazz Musicians)
